Here’s a new tune called “Annie Mae” by our band the Sugar Mules.   We recorded this as a "live" take and then over-dubbed the vocal harmonies.  Some Dobro nipping around the edges for texture.  I'll take the blame/credit as songwriter...lol.

What was the live recording set up? I imagine it was recorded via the bands mixer, details?

Thanks for the comments. Yeah, we do mash up genres a bit...lol.

We rented a few hours for 4 songs in a local studio. He used an Avid D-command console to mix us live with a scratch vocal, then we over-dubbed the final vocals. We were huddled in a jam circle with our own mics, except the Bass and fiddle were isolated. My Dobro was close-mic'd with an AKG C414B condenser. We did a couple live takes and just took the best overall band take. Nothing fancy given our budget...lol.

Sounds fantastic and thanks for sharing how you recorded it. Live performance takes are always the most honest and best way to record. And it saves you money and time from getting nit-picky about the takes. Great job!

Thanks!  Yes, true, it felt very organic.  The downside is you are stuck with whatever you did on the band's live "keeper" take...lol.  But yes, honest and cheap.
