Has anyone overcome essential tremor while playing, (with or without medication) It’s really hampering my progress. Thanks.

I have had an essential tremor in my left hand for about 50 years. I'm left handed and am a carpenter and builder. The neurologist said it was from nerve damage caused by impact to my elbow from nailing. I've been using Propanalol ever since to reduce the tremor. I take one in the morning daily for normal activities and one before practices and gigs. (It also is used to reduce stage fright for performers.) I wouldn't be able to play or sign my name without it.

Is this condition related in any way to a preliminary case of Parkinson's disease ?
What are the side effects of using the drug you are using ?
The symptoms you describe were something I experienced on my leg while playing pedal steel in front to an audience years ago.
Sometimes but not always, this happens to my right hand while playing my reso in the studio.
Lets hear from you out there on this subject..

Parkinsons has been ruled out, tremor only while writing or holding something. Tried acupuncture (only cured for about 24hrs), tried Propanalol, didn’t really work, now on Primidone 3 times a day but it’s effectiveness seems to be wearing off . Apparently it’s hereditary, my dad had it and my sister has it too.
