Just got into reso, and have a nice Dobro brand instrument from 1987. The note from the manufacturer with the serial number and maintenance instructions suggest a fine furniture polish for the body. I'm wondering what people do nowadays for routine cleaning (soft cloth wiping strings? body? or ...?).

There are a multitude of answers. I have liked Martin guitar polish and lately really like the MusicNomad "Guitar One" cleaner and polish. I have also used auto products like quick detailer or quick wax...all safe for gloss finishes as well as the metal parts of the guitar. I only use a dry microfiber or cotton towel to wipe the strings...don't like lubricants or string cleaners.
Just note when shopping...the Dr. Duck's Axe Wax gets really good reviews, but I hated it. It has a satisfaction guarantee, however, when I communicated my dissatisfaction to the supplier he simply said that I wasn't using it properly. Some guarantee.

Stew Mac preservation polish has produced great results for me on used instruments that have been polished by unknown products. This polish is used on the wood portion of the guitars. Micro cloth works well with this polish.
