This is a Model 66-S. Sand blasted, "French scroll."
The "S" refers to squareneck, slotted headstock. Not sure what the deal is with the "7." It was the 414th instrument produced in the year 1993. The "D" = wood body,
1993 was the year OMI Dobro sold to Gibson, so this was a transitional year. Production continued in Huntington Beach, California under the direction of Mike Replogle until some time in 1997. Gibson shut down the California operation, moved everything to Nashville and resumed production in 1998. Replogle declined to move to Nashville, and only one employee made the move, as I recall someone in accounting who quit after a short time.
The original sand blasted Model 65 and 66 were made in Los Angeles from the early to mid 1930s. When the Dopyera family regained the use of the Dobro name in 1970, they reintroduced the Model 66 in the mid Seventies. When Gibson moved the operation to Nashville, as I recall they discontinued the model.

Below is a link to the guitar on Reverb. Too bad about note names being written on the fretboard - looks like a black Sharpie. If there is an effective method of removing the names I would certainly try to do that.

Is there an echo in here? ![]()
...except for the part about Mark Makin's book - I still have yet to buy a copy due to the price, but I'd like to have one.

sorry Mark, I was looking in the book and replied without noticing your reply, but anyhow, get the Makin book, it is fun (and keeps you busy for a long time, worth every penny.)
