Lately, my squareneck has been making loud honking noises when I capo it and try to play it. What's more likely: there's something wrong with the capo, or there's something wrong with the resonator?

Which capo do you have - there are a number of different designs out there.

As far as the "capos are for lightweights" and "a capo is a crutch" people - that's a major crock of b.s.

I saw Rob & Trey (I think for was the sixth time since the duo formed) at the Sweetwater Music Hall just north of San Francisco last week, and Rob was using a Charlie's capo on a few songs. If it's okay for Rob Ickes to use a capo - it sure as heck is okay for the rest of us.

If Rob and Trey and Mark "Sonoma" Eaton say it's fine, that's gospel and a free pass. The capo is a Scheerhorn. I replaced the worn rubber sleeve a few months ago.

If there was something wrong with the resonator, I suspect you'd also have the issue without the capo.

Floating capos (like yours) can either chatter or buzz when the contact with the strings is uneven, or sometimes they can throw off stray overtones due to the added metal mass.  Neither is what I would characterize as a "honk".  Got me stumped...

If there was something wrong with the resonator, I suspect you'd also have the issue without the capo.

Honk isn't a precise description. Bark? Kranggg? Loud buzz? The best I word I can think of is annoying.

Anyhow, you haven't ruled out the capo as the culprit. That's something. So thanks, JC!

Did you first notice this "honk" after you replaced the rubber sleeve?
