This is the other part of the stupid questions. I've never handled a quality spider and was wondering if anyone could tell me the differences between the often mentioned Beard & Quarterman spiders and the cheaper ones? Are they lighter, heavier, different shape or different metallurgy than the other spiders?

There's a number of differences that I'm sure somebody here knows a lot more about than I do. The most important difference is that they sound a million times better than cheaper ones. Same thing with the cones.

MItchell.........it's my understanding Paul makes his own cone but not a spider. He still uses the Number 14 in the upper end guitars. Lesser value guitars, lesser spiders.

I'm still waiting on Brad Harper to get his finished. Looks like it's gonna be neat.

Play it again, Sam. Over, and over, and over:

The Crafters of Tennessee spiders are good and very clean looking. Ivan put one in my Guernsey and it sounds pretty good ,too!!!

We use original No 14 castings in every guitar we build and/or set up. That includes Gold Tones.
