I've been having a problem with a dead third string and I don't know why it's going dead so quickly, I changed strings yesterday and it's already dead(and it's not only dead, it's also been making an annoying hissing sound).

This has happened with the last 5 of so string changes, and it has happened with both D'Addario EJ42 and Beard Special 28 strings.

I'm not sure if it's a setup problem or a string problem. I would really appreciate it if you could please give me your opinion on why this may be happening.

Thank you

Check the slots on your nut and bridge inserts for rough edges. I can only get 3-5 hours of playing out of any 3rd string I've tried. The third string takes a lot of abuse.

Since the 3rd string gets a lot of beating and it has the thinnest winding, make sure the playing surface of your bar is clean and smooth as can be.
