I finally got a strap lock (Schaller 445) & went to install it tonite...but the screw for the new tail pin is smaller dia. than the stock screw on my D-60. Surely others have run into this problem, what's the best work-a-round? Should I drill out the Schaller pin to fit the stock screw, scrap the idea altogether, or what?
thnx,
VicW.

Put a few wooden toothpicks in the hole for the screw to take up the slack and then screw in the Schaller screw. Coat the toothpicks with a bit of white glue if you like. You could drill and plug the hole but that's overkill when a simple fix works fine.

Or open the hole in the strap lock a little bit and use the original screw.

The head of the stock screw is larger too, so in order to maintain a countersink in the tail-pin for the strap locks spring-loaded 'button' to catch, I'd need to do something there as well. I'll prolly use the toothpick 'n glue idea. Thanks a bunch guys.

I got a Schaller strap lock for my Goldtone PBSM and I wanted to know if it is necessary to remove or loosen the strings before doing the installation?
Thanks,
Larry

YES! The tailpiece is under a LOT of tension when the guitar is strung to pitch & loosening the tailpin could result in damage to your guitar or injury to yourself. Taking the strings off would be best, but back em off till the strings are completely slack & you'll be ok.

Thanks for the quick answer Vic, I was pretty sure that was the answer but I hate to waste effort if I don't have to.
Thanks again,
Larry

Hey Vic
I have run into the same problem. I used the screw that came with the guitar.Since the head of the screw was too large for the Schaller button,I put the screw in a drill press, with the head down. With the drill press running I took a file and removed the top edge of the bevel until it fit the schaller button.

Strange. I used the Dunlop lock and everything worked fine.
Play it again, Sam. Over, and over, and over:
