Hey all! I play a Gold Tone Beard PBR Deluxe. I got it a week ago and love it. My question is what strings does this girl need? I'm currently doing some picking mixed in with the slide and playing in open D. I'm new to the resonator world and thought I would get yalls opinion.

I just bought those yesterday. I know everyone tends to go heavier. I appreciate the input!

I use GHS 1650's on mine. But I use those on everything. I play to hard for the lighter string to have any type of clean sound. I've tried the J-42's and just can't make um work at all. The Scheerhorn set is the heaviest in a package I know of, and I like um, but I'm cheap. I mean thrifty.
The first and second string at 17 and 19 are nice. But a 20 is better still. And for a third string, try a 30. You can really dig in a pick.

Play it again, Sam. Over, and over, and over:

Phosphor bronze are the brightest, nickel are the warmest. I liked the Scheerhorn strings, they lasted a long time on my Beard Vintage R. I have Duck's on it now and my next set are going to be Pearse Uncle Josh strings with the unwound G. (third) string.

I would say the j-42s are more widely used for whatever reason, but they are all basically the same thing in a different package. What hurts the j-42 set is the .026 instead of .028 third string.
