They are reasonably priced, but I have not yet had the opportunity to play one. Here's a discussion from the Jerry Douglas BB that's pretty favorable overall:

The prices on elderly are a little better than buying direct. (free case, free shipping). I play a Beard Vintage R and althouugh I didn't pay $2000 (Janet Davis Music) It looks to me that these tow guitars are comparible. That is a pretty good price for a USA built reso.

I played one for about 3 weeks and had to send it back to Jim. Good guitar. The one thing I liked is the dealing with Jim. He's jam up. Whatever you want is fine with him. At the time he wanted me to try one of his, but just couldn't have the money put in my hand to give him. Sad.
By the way, not to make Jim angry at me, but, John Paul Johnson in NC has gotten instruction from Jim about the build procedure, and now builds a same looking reso. Sounds very good also. Really loud.
..pt..
Very nice reso.
Play it again, Sam. Over, and over, and over:

thanks for the input. The Jerry Douglass blog was interesting and informative. I was looking to make a trade for my guitar to Elderly and looking at the Adams or the Wechter Sheerhorn Rob Ickes model. Unfortunately Elderly won't give me enough in trade, they were very upfront about what they would give me and what they would sell my guitar for which was about $500 difference. So I guess I'll sell my guitar myself and then look at investing that money into a new or used Resonator guitar. thanks again.

Jim sent me a guitar on approval a year ago. It was one of his $900 birch plywood R size models. Sounded about as good as a Beard Goldtone, nothing special. Note that he sent it to me with no deposit just for me to try, he is very easy to work with. I wound up sending that guitar back. He's had more experience building now and his guitars are getting better reviews. I wound up buying a large body DeNeve for $1700 and have been very happy with the guitar. Dick DeNeve has been building for 20 years and has worked all the bugs out of his guitars. I have never heard anyone say they regret buying a DeNeve.
