Howdy ya'll, this is my first post here on the hangout. I just recently acquired a W/S 6510f reso and want some opinions. Is the cone that comes in these guitars as good as a beard or quarterman? Basically what I want to know is, will it be worth the extra money to put a Beard cone and spider in this thing and will it be a drop in fit?

Dobro playin'' mofo.

The Wechter Scheerhorns in my opinion have a good cone in them. They have good tone and volume right out of the box. Do you know how old the guitar is? If it is 3 or four years old and you need to replace the strings anyway, you might take the coverplate off and remove the cone and spider. Take them apart and clean the cone with Windex. Blow the body out or sweep it out. Polish the coverplate. Reassemble everything in the same way it was when you disassembled it. If it has been played very much the bridge insert may be worn, I would check that, but it isn't likely. If strings 3,4,5 & 6 are more than half way in, some can be sanded off the top of the insert. If they are seriously not level, you can replace the insert, again, not likely.

I spoke to Abe Wechter and he told me, in his opinion, the guitars with F holes sounded better than the ones with screens. That was the original model and dealers asked for models with screenholes.

Yeah it sounds good as is, but my question is if it will sound better with beard components? and are said components a drop in fit?

Dobro playin'' mofo.

No, it will not sound better with Beard components. Yes, they will fit without altering the guitar.
