Has anyone used this pickup without the aura pedal? Say thru a baggs para-acoustic DI? I'm curious as to how it would sound going through a standard preamp like that. I've seen the videos of auldridge and heffernan, and the pickup definitely seems to need some sort of EQ without the aura.

I have a fishman pickup in my dobro, not the one you refer to. It is a passive pickup and I don't need a preamp to put it thru and amp but you do get more personnal control with the preamp. I have also looked at that pick up and the recommend a preamp but it is not necessary. The aura pedal comes in more as a mike type setup without the mike for the dobro, which if you saw the youtube with Mike Auldridge is pretty amazing. but 250 for that pedal is pretty steep.
