There is a set of OMI/Gibson serial numbers that start with D and then 7 digits
ie D1234567 that occur from around the transition from CA to TN. After the ones OMI used that had the year as the last two digits as the year, and before Gibson got around to using their 8 digit set that is current.
If you know how to read these and or know the correct years how bout letting me know.

1995-1997

A(A) = model code
(#) ### = ranking number
YY = last 2 digits of year
Example - BA xxx 95 dates to 1995
1997-Current
YMMDDRRY
Y = last digit of year
MM = Month
DD = day of month
RR = ranking number
Y (last digit) = decade

Dan, thanks for the attempt, but that's the same info as
provide/net and doesn't address the ones that start with D and then 7 digits. They are between the late 90s that end with the year, and before the Gibson standard, which by the way is first and fifth, not first and last.

My apologies to Dan Brooks.
I misread his post. It just occurred to me finally that the Gibson Company's most recent code for all guitar serial numbers doesn't include Dobros.
Electric Guitars use the first and fifth digit
Dobros are the last and first after the D
I suppose the D is still wood.

I am looking at what appears to be a Gibson F60S Dobro with serial #D0062310 on the peghead. Any idea what it means? I think it's a F60s because Amazon shows them previously for sale but no
longer available--for $2500 retail. I can buy this one for $750, which may or may not be a good buy.
