Hi All,
I'm new to the board. I've got a Regal metal body. I'd like to get a step by step instruction on how to get closer to the "trash can" tone on my guitar. It seems like the resonator is way too tight as it sounds more like a loud acoustic guitar as opposed to a resophonic. I'm guessing that I need to loosen the nut holding down the resonator, but I'd feel more comfortable if someone with experience could explain to me how to do that.
Thanks in advance,
JC

Your cone may have been over-tightened at some point. Did you but it new? the basic tension setup is back the crew off, then run it back to snug, the, 'just a tweek". Over-tightening can ruin the cone, and the results sound pretty much as you are describing. Too many folks like to "fiddle with" and "Adjust" things when they were perfectly good to start with...I should know...I do it all the time!!

There may not be anything wrong with it. Your dobro may sound a lot different 10 or 15 feet away from the instrument than being right in your face. If you know someone else that can pick, let them have a go at it, step back and listen.
