I getting ready to buy my first set of strings for the PBSM and I have a couple of questions. Now, I know that everyone has their favorite set and everyone likes different things, but I would like a little direction. I've kinda narrowed it down to either the GHS SH1600's, the GHS TS1600's, or the D'Addario EXP's, but am very open to any other recommendations. What exactly is the difference between the SH1600 and the TS1600? They are the same gauge, both appear to be coated(?), and both appear to be endorsed by Tim Scheerhorn. Thanks!

When I ordered my PBSM from Beard I also asked them to include (at my cost) two sets of whatever strings they put on the PBSM. Included in my delivery were two sets of Beard Special 29's which I do not see listed their website tinyurl.com/Special29s.
I am not certain but this set appears to be the Beard BR79 strings with a special wound 3rd string, the BR29 included. I would think you could call or e-mail Beard to get more info on the Special 29's, but that seems to be the string set they recommend for our PBSMs.

GHS makes a quality set of strings. I played them for years, but I play the D'Addario EJ-42 now. If you play a lot, try different sets till you find one you really like. They're all good , but you'll find one that feels and sounds right to you.

The SH 1600 are cryogenically treated. I had them and I felt they lasted longer than any other set I ever had. It may be a misprint, but it looks to me that the TS 1600 have .028 strings for both third and fourth. ghsstrings.com/products.php (Go to other strings and move the bar to the left for slide guitar, then click on the picture). EJ-42 is a good bright all around set.

There are TWO Beard codes for 2 seperate products that each contain a heavier wound 3rd string--which has a heavier core inside the winding. The newer product is BR-79 and the guages of the first 3 strings are .018--.020--and .029.The similar product is slightly lighter guages but ALSO includes a heaveir 3rd string with a heavier core.. That would be BR78 code and the guages are .017--.019--..028.I have used and preferred this one.both the above are phosphor bronze. Prior to that I enjoyed another Beard item in a green envelope called GHS BRIGHT Bronze (lighter guages at .015-.017-.026). They had great tome but seemed to wear out quicker than Phospher bronze and the 3rd string broke fairly often.So I am happy with BR-78 and the BR79 sound like they would be way heavy. Strings are sold in boxes of 1 dozen at a cheaper price than 'buy the single set". Ask Beard for a discount of buying a box of one dozen sets of your favorite.
