Hi,
I have my Father's old Magna Tone Double Cyclops Dobro that was made for Montgomery Ward. He picked it up at a pawn shop in the 1930's. It is missing the metal double cyclops screen and framing insert. Does anyone know of where I might be able to get a replacement or is there any metal shops that could replicate the double cyclops metal screen insert? I appreciate any info or help. It is a cool old piece with Dobro metal parts.

I've never seen a reproduction of the double cyclops insert, so I suggest keeping an eye out on eBay. One may pop up there sooner or later, but I'll bet if one shows up, it'll probably go for a fair amount of change.

I think trying to find an original will be next to impossible but thought maybe some metal craftsman could replicate one.
Anyone out there?
Here is a picture of one that I found on a website of a dealer who has a Magna Tone Resonator for sale.

There are so few double cyclops ever for sale that waiting for the part seems futile. It would seem you could purchase 2 standard screens UNPLATED (Paul Beard/Resophonic Outfitters) and then have a jeweler silver solder the 2 s ide-by side, then sand and blend and finally re-plate. Beard has the unplated raw BRASS screens that the jeweler could modify.

Do a search using Google (or your favorite search engine) for "dobro cyclops" to see many links, photos, etc. The Vintage Guitar Price Guide lists this model (or a similar one from that era) as being worth between $2000 and $3000 in "excellent" condition.

Willie's American Guitars has one being offered for $2,500 USD.

The old "double cyclops" is much smaller than a standard screen. If you look at the picture carefully you'll note that it is barely wider than the spread of 6 strings. You'd have to find an original or fabricate it from scratch.
Nice guitar!

I think that piece could be made. I would make dies out of hard maple and press it out. I would use brass sheet for the material (possibly german silver). Screen material would be an issue though. If as Howard said the screen holes are smaller than standard, you might get an old pair of screens , remove the screens from the rings and make new smaller ones with maple dies.

Make good friends with someone at a machine shop and maybe they could do something for you. It may cost, but it could speed up trying to obtain one. I had a special thumbscrew for a prewar Gibson top-tension once. I had to have ten made to get the price reasonable, but I sold the ones I didn't need on eBay and made my money back, because there were a lot of people out there looking for the same thing.
