I just finished converting my dobro to 7 strings. It's a Johnson that I got at a pawnshop closeout for $50, so I wasn't too worried about screwing it up.
It was a pretty simple operation once I got started. I was a little worried about the string spread at the saddle, and it is tight, but it worked out fine. Yehawww!!!
I can't figure out how to put photos on here, but I uploaded some to my pictures on this site.
It''s really better than it sounds...

Now that you have IT, how do you tune it? 'G' -- G6 -- D?-- E-- I have an OMI 8 string [ i really wanted a 7 but they are almost impossible to find] Mine is in G6 [ DGBDEGBD] USUALLY THEY are tuned [EGBDEGBD] but I've seen a really nice sho-bud 7 tuned to open E [ no minor notes and he had to capo to G for bluegrass playing]

It's tuned to G6. High to low: DBGEDBG. I like having the root note on the bottom.
