Hi, although almost 30 I've only recently started playing guitar and taking lessons.
I've always had an interest in the blues, and have loved the sound of resonators.
On a whim I've done some looking around in local shops, and the least expensive resonators I can find (as a beginner, for learning) in the same price range are:
- used Johnson JR-520-Cxxx (the shop owner didn't know the exact model, but it matches pictures on Johnson's site, other than the colour)
- new "Alabama" blonde resonator with cutaway and soap-bar pickup - I can't find any info on Alabama guitars generally (and at least 3 shops here stock them), but after some searching it looks an awful lot like a Martinez MDR-2CE. This one is on sale, it still costs slightly more than the others but not bad, which may make it a better value, if it is fact the higher quality guitar.
- new Fender FR50
I've played a few chords on each, and I like the Fender's tone/voice the least, and it doesn't have a built-in pickup like the other 2.
I'm looking for opinions on the above, mostly if people have direct experience with them as beginner instruments - build qualities, satisfaction for the money, etc.
I've read through a number of posts, but can't find info on the "Alabama" specifically, and am particularly interested in it relative to the Johnson.

(I would prefer buying local right now, as I'm in Canada and with the exchange rate, shipping and duty, as well as potential return hassles it tends to not make it worth my while to shop cross-border for a basic instrument.)
