Making my own top-end axe, the first thing I’m going to replace is my cone.
Question; which is better?
I’ve read all the threads that involved “cones” and seen a lot of people talking about Beard or Quarterman cones, what about national cones?
National resonators has caught my attention due to blues player’s the Black Ace and Stevie Ray Vaughan and now have become my desire (or obsession) but the National resonators price tag (new or used) is way out of my league.
My idea is to make a ½ National by replacing the cone, cover plate, tailpiece and tuners with all National parts, then leaving just the body a different brand. (Total price with changing to all National parts roughly $400.)
But would it be wiser to go with Beard or Quarterman cones because of a possible quality difference?
Thanks,
David

National cones are awesome. When it comes to metal body resos, I would pick national over the others.
YMMV

David, The National cone is a good choice for a metal body reso. Keep us updated on how the upgrade is going.
