The specs for the Rob Ickes says it comes with a "premium" spun aluminum cone. Is that the same as in their high-end resos or something of less quality? Is it worth replacing with maybe a Quarterman?

I wouldn't think of replacing it til I found out for sure. Shoot them an e-mail and ask.
It's probably "top shelf " stuff on Rob's signature model.

I had one, the cone was ok but was not a quarterman or beard, I upgraded and it made a tremendous difference. I wouldn't change it until I tried it and see how you like the cone that comes with it. One note if you do change it, it is the Metric Size cone, the Quarterman QC-10 or Beards equivalent. I bought a Quarterman QC-1 because I didn't know it was undersized, you can trim the normal cones pretty easily if you're confident enough to do the upgrade yourself. I think you'll like the W/S RI i sold mine and bought a Beard MA-6 but I had no compaints about the guitar.

according to abe Wechter the first cones were spun as a european cone so who knows where that is from somewhere in Europe . Now they use a sheerhorn cone. but from I understand an old beard employee who is disgruntled.

I was debating between rob ickes model and adams at elderly. I was told by the elderly people the rob ickes is a pretty guitar but the adams is work horse with lots of tone and volume plus its made in america. They turned me off of the rob ickes model and I bought a used Adams which I am totally happy with already with a quarterman cone and spider bridge. no need for adjustmants here/

just one more thing, what american in these times would put their name on a orietnal made product. Evidently rob ickes would. not to say anything against him but wouldn't you put your name on an american made product? there are enough good guitar buildres in this country that need the work.

I think the availability of the lower-priced asian-made guitars will lead to more people becoming involved in playing and then will eventually upgrade to one of the higher quality American made resos. Also, a lot of people on this site (including me) have bought straps from Martin Gross and he surely isn't from the US, but makes high quality straps that aren't available here. BTW, I also play a Fishook which is made here.

Rob put his name on this guitar because it delivers the goods when it comes to sound, he says so himself in the youtube videos. And either way they are being set up in the wechter shop here in the states by American employees, they wouldn't be nearly as affordable if the bodies were made in America as well.
Dobro playin'' mofo.

Just got off the phone with Abe Wechter. Although the original cones on the W/S Rob Ikes, were European, the newer model Ikes uses a Sheerhorn cone. The "premium aluminum cone", description on Wechter's site. is from the older molder model description and has not yet been changed on their site. Given the debate on,"What cone is in the Rob Ikes, I thought I'd clarify. Mr. Wechter asked me to reply to the thread with the correct info.
