I picked up a used Johnson squareneck last night for 150.00. It sounds pretty good, no buzzing from the cone or anything like that. I saw that Beard will "hot rod" you dobro, giving you a beard cone and setup. I was wondering if this would be worth doing to this Johnson reso. I'm wondering how much difference it will make. After all, you know what they say... You can't polish a turd. I'd like some input from anyone who's had this done. Thanks
Matt

It will definitely sound better. I put a Beard Cone and nut in my Abilene reso and it sounded a lot sweeter and louder as well. It will probably fall a little short of a Beard PBS though. I would say it will be $200 well spent.
