Get a microfiber cloth to wipe it down every time you play it. There are a lot of products to clean metal, I go over the nickel coverplate on my National once in a while with Flitz.

I use Zildjian cymbal polish (not abrasive) on my dobro and banjo.

Micro fiber cloth and "SemiChrome" make a good combination.
Works on Chrome or Nickel.

You want to be carefull with Nickel, it's a lot easier to polish through than chrome.

Its impossiable to keep them clean all the time lol. thats why I had all my hardware powder coated Flat-Black. it looks great and now I dont have to worry about cleaning it.
