Hi,
I want to upgrade my Wechter/Scheerhorn WS 1650 (mahgony) with a Quarterman cone. It has got a real loud and clear tone. Very nice.....it´s just that little magic in the sound that I miss.
Now I always read about the QC-1 cone of being real good. I could get a QD-1 cone.
Is there any difference between the two or has it just been renamed?
And one more question:
There is the QD-1 with 10-9/16" diameter and the QD_110 with 10-1/2" diameter. I heard of people sanding down the cone, to make it fit. I think the other way is to make the hole bigger in the top of the guitar.
Which option would you choose preferably?
....still one more: do you think it´ll be just as loud with the new cone? Any help very much appriciated,
greetings, Frank

Some well sizes differed on older instruments. Suppliers (spinners) offered 10 & 9/16 diameter as an option. Trimming an oversize cone to fit is better than buying an undersize cone. Measure your well diameter and decide which. The metal is thin. You want to avoid bending. Lay it horizontal flat in your lap and trim the outer edge evenly all around, removing the thinnest ribbon of metal. Tin snips are overkill--a sharp scissors gives better accuracy.Keeping the scissors stationery and turning the cone into the jaws of the scissors will result in minimal edge deflection and an even removal of thin ribbon of excess aluminum.
