I am a banjo player but my fiddle player has lent me a dobro because he thinks I am a genius and can learn to play it. Its a Countryman Dobro. Is this a good make or just a pre entry level ? What are your tips for learning ?

Never heard of that brand or maker, goldtopia, and I believe I've heard of if not researched most of them. Any info on when, where, and by who it was made?
As for learning materials, DVDs are a great way to go. Having owned most of what's available, I'd advise you to get one if not all of the following: the Rob Ickes double DVD "Essential Techniques for Dobro"; Jimmy Heffernan's "Resophonic Guitar from Scratch"; and Orville Johnson's "Tricks, Licks and Techniques for Dobro," Volumes 1 and 2. All of these have been tremendously useful for me.
