Hello fellow axman. I am new to this forum and if these question(s) have been posted I do apologize.
(I ran a forum search and couldn't find anything)
Here is my question:
A local ma and pa shop near me is selling a used Fender FR50 for ~$100. The only issue (or so they tell me) is that it's missing some felt (or cloth) piece that's needed to string the guitar??
Does anybody know this means?
I went to the local GC and the staff looked at me like I had 2 heads. They didn't know what felt piece I was speaking of.
Also, I'm weary to buy the guitar for $100 bucks without playing it but I can't find this felt piece to string the guitar. Does anybody know where I can aquire this piece? Is $100 a good deal for a resonator? I've been watching youtube vids for the past several weeks and I've really fallen in love with the tone of a resonator.
Any help would be appreciated.

Sometimes a piece of leather is placed between the tailpiece and the coverplate to prevent buzzing. My Beard GT has a length of rubber tubing there. That's the only place I can think of where felt could have anything at all to do with strings.

Cool. Thanks for the info. So technically I should be able to string the guitar up as is. Yes?
If there is a rattle I can insert a piece of cloth (or leather) to curb the rattle?
Is there an outlet that sells specific items for this? Or can I homecook something that can be used?
(Obviously I'm getting ahead of myself as I don't even know if the guitar rattles. I'm just going on what the seller told me.)
I have tried every combination of ‘maintenance, rattle, felt cloth, resonator, restring, Fender FR50’ in Google and I am quite startled at the lack of information out there.
Does $100 sound reasonable for a used resonator?

A general setup will knock out most causes of rattles. There have been some very informative posts about setting up a reso here that you can do yourself. It is good to become very familiar with your guitar by going through it like a used car you just bought. Change all fluids, grease everything, check everything, etc.
