Resonator Guitar Lovers Online
On Saturday July 11th, ( weather permitting) I will give a demonstration to an audience of people who have no idea of what a dobro guitar is. So in thinking of an agenda or program to follow, I plan to start by doing some hot licks to warm up my fingers and then explaining how the dobro is played and giving out some history of the instrument. This should take about 10 or 15 minutes and answer any questions that the audience has. I will then do a series of melodies of show tunes and some of my own compositions. This should take about another 20 minutes. I will also hand out the latest press release I have for them to read. After that time I will answer any final questions and perhaps get a sing along started in which I can strum along with the singers in any key they choose. This is the first time I have ever done this and it will be very interesting to see the reaction of the audience with my presentation. I will keep our members posted on the results.

The demonstrating went quite well with a very appreciative audience.

I have made a list of the agenda for this demonstration which lasted about an hour and a half. Included were the initial instrumental slides in different keys and an explanation on how the reso is played followed by a short history of the instrument and then various tunes from blues, classical, show, original, spiritual, country, and bluegrass tunes. I made up a press release flyer which I handed out prior to the demonstration and closed the program with a question and answer session. Everything went reasonably well since I have never done this before. I also made up a list for me to follow in case I will be asked to do this again..

I will further add...the audience freaked out when I changed the tuning from a G to a D and did some blues licks. Between the capo, the slides in different keys the d-tuning and the songs I played, I think they got their satisfaction in knowing a lot more about the resonator guitar than they did before the presentation..

I used the same TTT reso to play for my sister in law who is confined to an assisted living facility last night ( August 1st 2015 ) I was inspired by the reception and played a number of compositions and gospel tunes for her. I felt good for having the talent God gave me to do this for others who might not have the experience in hearing and seeing a resonator guitar in a solo act.
