This is luthier Bill Hardin's version of an all-koa Weissenborn Kona. It was built on Maui in 2002 with a round neck and a 23" scale. Recently, Bill put a new square neck on it, using some gorgeous koa. We kept the 23" scale as it made for an easier transition between this guitar and my electric lap steel. The guitar sounded fabulous before the conversion. I think it sounds even better now. Bill also repaired a crack in the back of the guitar. It does have some flaws: The finish is dull where the pick-up contact the top, the ebony bridge is a little banged up, and there's a small gap where the neck meets the body (see pictures). Bill assures me these are cosmetic and not structural issues: He builds a strong guitar.
I'm selling because I'm playing mostly electric lap steel these days and I hate to have guitars sitting around unplayed - especially one that looks and sounds like this one. This is a great travel guitar - small and light with a big sound. Comes with a Boulder Alpine gig bag (not pictured).
