Hey Bob, welcome to our little group. Where are you from in Michigan? I moved to Caseville (tip of the thumb) just short of 9 years ago from Metro Detroit but have lived all from there to the UP. What kind of Reso do you play? I hope you enjoy it here.

	Bob E says: 5/29/2012 12:01:38 PM Shoot, you got me. I don't have a reso. I'm just above the Ohio Indian border. I traded a guy in Toledo for an old inexpensive dreadnought, which turned out to have a busted truss rod. So, I dug out a nut extender I've had laying around for a few years and a wrist pin from an old abandoned aircooled VW project. I came here to see if I can figure out that lap style country/blues/grass stuff.
	Grizz says: 5/29/2012 12:23:25 PM There is nothing wrong with that. Before i got my first reso I had a used Samick LW-213 and i put a nut extender on it, Aloha Strings and tuned it to open D. I still have it as my "deck/campfire" guitar and it sounds better than it ever did played Spanish style. lmao However it has no truss rod and i don't think I would try open G with it. :) But have fun and when you get hooked well..................
	Bob E says: 5/29/2012 1:21:00 PM yeah, I've been playing around with string calculators, and I cannibalized a couple of string sets to get .047", .038", .032", .025", .016", .014" tuned GBDgbd with about 7 lbs less tension then a regular set of strings tuned to standard E. It looks like open D with a regular set of strings would be another 15 lbs less than what I've got now, but I don't think I've got much to lose anyway. This guitar already needs a repair that will cost more than it is worth.
	Grizz says: 5/29/2012 6:18:43 PM How does it sound with the light strings? See the Newtone Aloha strings have a lighter core and round core as well which decreases tension at tune. These were specifically designed for Weissenborns most especially the vintage and import instrument. The modern like my Bear Creek can handle more. I use these exclusively on my vintage Oahu lap acoustics.They are 15 17 26 36 46 56. Check this out In particular under the Weissenborn string section. celticsounds.de/string_e.htm Just a thought
