Just got myself a weissenborn [copy] made by Neil Russell [Celtic Cross] of Victoria,BC,Canada. I've wanted one for a long time, but this one came my way [and followed me home] from a friend that was clearing space[for more instruments]. Now after playing dobro for lots of years I have to learn my way around D tuning. I've heard that learning new things helps stave off the onset of alzheimers. Guess I'll wait to see if that's true[if I can remember]. Now I'm waiting for new strings. 3 sets of Newtone strings sent to me by 12th Fret in Toronto. It currently has the Newtone Alohas for weissenborn on it, but they're pretty dead[although it does still sound "pretty"]. Also getting lights and mediums for Nationals[Newtone] to try more tension. Since the instrument is modern[No. 262 from 2005 it should handle more stress than an original Weissenborn. Only had it out in public once so far. I'll have to try my Fishman rare earth soundhole pickup in it or mic it to play with my band.
So now I get to be part of this group forum instead of just a bystander.
