Hi. I've been playing round neck slide guitar for a pretty long time and , being no stranger to open tunings, decided to try lap steel. I have a Lazy River Teardrop (spruce top/ mahogany back and sides) arriving this week. I also saw a 1925 Style 2 with no cracks, just playing wear, which is tempting. Overkill?

	Bob Blair says: 3/31/2014 6:28:22 AM Welcome aboard! I saw that Style 2 - a well-respected seller and a great looking instrument. I darn near jumped on it but I have several Weissenborn-style guitars and other priorities right now. For me, vintage instruments would be a brand new rabbit hole and one I'm not sure I have time for! But that is a very decent price and an instrument I would love to have - I would not see it as overkill at all.

I hope you'll post a sound sample of video when it arrives - and pictures at the very least!. Rance makes a gorgeous instrument. I'm with Bob about acquiring the Style 2. I think of it like this: A tear drop will have a slightly different sound than a hollowneck, and I'm told nothing sounds quite like an original Weissenborn. Both the original Weissenborn and the Lazy River will hold their value quite well, so if you can always sell them if lap steel isn't for you. A particular quirk of the Weissenborn is how difficult it is to find one near you to play before you buy. I've bought and sold several of them to arrive at the ones I'm keeping. Let us know what you decide.
