Hi folks,

Just thought I'd post an impression of a Weiss copy I just received. I have/had a cheap old Chinese made Weiss copy that finally self-destructed.

I needed a replacement but did not want to spend an huge amount of money on one. I'm not that good at it and at my age a popsicle sitting in the sun could outlast me.

I'd been looking at Twisted Wood's website for some time now so I decided to order one of theirs. I ordered the Drifter. The absolutely least expensive one they make.

5 days later it arrived at my door. First; it was the best packing job I have ever seen. A nuclear explosion would have had no affect. It also has a nice serviceable gig bag with it.

It is a very nice well made little guitar. IT IS NOT FANCY. Just a well made good looking base model. I really like it. It sounds great acoustically or plugged in and has nice sustain especially for a laminate model. They come with or without a pickup.

I am extremely happy with this guitar. Adam, who I dealt with on the phone at Twisted Wood was very helpful and friendly.

If anyone is interested in a good reasonably price Weiss copy a look at Twisted Wood might be interesting for you. I'm sure glad I found them. They also have some beautiful higher end models for those who can actually play one of these things....or can afford one.

Not planning on dying soon and would like to have a reasonably nice Weiss that I won't regret buying. Are you well along in playing or a beginner like me? I want to get good enough to be a solo player/singer for church or open mic and wondered which would be better; acoustic guitar or weiss? Sorry for going on and on.

I have no intention of ever playing publicly. I played acoustic guitar for a few decades and arthritis made it difficult a few years back. I found the lap steel and loved it. I then found the Weissenborn and really love it. As far as playing in a church or open mic what guitar would be best is entirely a personal choice. I would choose acoustic guitar because for me it is (was) easier to play, easier for the audience to relate to and I could interact with them while playing. I don't have to look at the fretboard etc. I would choose the Weiss because it piques curiosity as not many have seen one and it is a beautiful instrument to listen to and very few people have seen one being played. The only drawback is that with a Weiss or a lap steel your attention is on the fretboard/instrument because you have to pay attention to where you are. That creates a disconnect from those who are listening. I really enjoyed it when I played acoustic guitar as I could look at or even joke with and talk to the folks listening while I was playing. Can't do that with a tone bar in my hand. All of the above is just my personal opinion. Everyone is different and had different skills. My skills have always been a bit limited but learned to live within them and still have fun. If it was me making the decision it would be a Weiss all the way. I love the instrument. But it does create a disconnect to the audience because your concentration forces you to look down at the fretboard. Which is weird because only two of my lap steels actually have frets.
