Ok, I'm figuring group thing out, I originally posted this as a comment to a previous entry, I'm reposting it as a new blog entry to the group.

Does anyone know what tuning Joe Kelly Phelps plays slide guitar in, specifically Doxology and When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder? I've been messing around with them on the weiss and trying to emulate what he's doing with the songs. Thanks for any help.

	jmb3450 says: 2/25/2011 7:30:33 AM Hey Mike, thanks for pointing me to Mitch, here's his answer in case anyone else is wanting to know: KJP tuning on both tunes is the standard 'D' type tuning; D A D F# A D (low to high) On DOXOLOGY (done on a 12 string guitar), the entire guitar is tuned DOWN 1 whole step to C ... so C G C E G C On "Roll Is Called", the guitar is tuned to standard D but capo'd up so the tune is in the key of F, so capo at the 3rd fret.
	MitchC says: 3/4/2011 4:38:04 PM The KJP stuff is fun to learn... having spent 3 years playing the 'Chet Atkins' fingerstyle guitar really helped, as alot of KJP's playing incorporates that alternating thumb thing... it does take a little while for that thumb to develop a mind of it's own..but once you've got it, it feels great to play that kinda stuff... doing the Chet picking with the guitar laying flat in your lap and using a bar is a bit weird at first also. I really wish KJP had continued to play lap style guitar. His style was very unique and he didn't do enough of it in his career !
