Here is the latest update. The mod. on my GK laminate dreadnaught will not be happening any time soon. As of last weekend I am now the proud owner of a pre-loved Gold Tone SM Weissenborn. That would make me a full card carrying member of the group. Is that correct Mike.? Whenever I feel my way around this near mint guitar I would be pleased if other members of the group can offer me any hints or tips with my DGDGBD and DADF#AD tunings.

Good luck with the new GT Weissenborn. I was quite interested in your original idea of modifying a dreadnaught. It seemed doable with a little structural joinery. The fact that you wanted to make a Kona style hollowneck probably would make the transition a little easier.
The Noe/Most book does show the "convertible" model that Knutsen developed, but I think the idea was impractical and therefore short lived. If I was going to make a Kona style guitar, it would definitely be set up for standard fretting and bottleneck use, ala Ry Cooder. If you do get around to your project, the difficulty will be an aesthetic transition between the original body and the new neck section. I would make the connection as best as possible joinery- wise and then veneer the entire guitar (possible mahogany) so it has the appearance of a single neck /body.
Those tunings you mentioned are what I use also. In fact I use the DGDGBD tuning on my resonator guitar too. You might try adding the DADGAD tuning (low to high) also.

What type of music is in the book, and for what instrument is it written for? I use books for mandolin, guitar, etc. with standard notation and tab, and end up transcribing them for dobro, weissenborn, etc.

You lit a firecracker under me. I found it.
The book is for 6 string acoustic. It has standard notation and tab for each tune.
The title is "The Irish DADGAD Guitar book"
Published 1995 by Ossian.
There are 6 jigs, 5 reels, 3 hornpipes, 3 polkas, 7 "other" which comprise 2 airs and a slip jig, a slide, a mazurka, a waltz and a set dance. These tunes are for lively fingers Jack and will certainly be a workout for me after all these years of neglect. Sarah McQuaid tours the N. American East coast once a year and I believe she has a web presence now.
