I don't even know where to start.Even though it's still in the case getting warmed up I took a peek.I've never seen anything as beautiful as this instrument.It has a curly walnut fret board and head stock overlay..Cocobola binding and Herringbone around the top.The Myrtlewood is as curly and golden as the most figured curly Maple / Koa I've ever seen. What a work of art and there's no wonder Jayson is proud of these.I strummed it lightly and It just sings.Man I can't wait to play this thing. Cal more to come

CONGRATULATIONS CAL !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now leave it alone to aclimate itself. We all know how hard that can be. I just got me Oahu K-71 Monday and it was killing me. I bought it had it shipped to Doug Spencer for a bridge plate replacement then he shipped to me and UPS in its infinite wisdom is off Friday so it sat in a distribution center 4 days I received it late of the 5th. Had I know they were off I would NEVER have shipped then. Same thing happened to Lee. He's waiting 2 days to open his. I think that is a bit much, but whatever. So LEAVE YOURS ALONE. hehehe Jayson is an artiste' extraordinaire. So I can only imagine. Now I will wait patiently (unlike someone else I know) to see the photos. roflmao I am happy for you. Mike

Thanks Grizz,I did take another peek and it has Curly walnut binding and instead of Herringbone it's a fine rope style around the inside of the walnut on top.We'll talk soon.Cal

Sounds "off the hook" and I am sure it is. Can't wait to see photos. I am going to take some quickies tomorrow of mine. I really want to go outside with all my instruments and take new photos. Been going to do it for six months but you know, never do today what you can put off until tomorrow. lmao I have CRS so forgive me but did I tell you Jayson made the KOA cover plate fo match my guitar for the Baggs M-1. All hand made. If I haven't I'll tell you the short story on it. Kinda cool.

Cal, this is sounding like the most drool-worthy guitar on the planet. I can understand why you'd want to take a peak. Not all of us have Mike's self-control. ;-) Pictures, please, and some audio. Tomorrow is Cal and Lee. I waited one day, so my patience isn't that good. lol Both of ours were at a distribution center because of the weekend and holiday. This is the first time. I don't even like and instrument there over the weekend. But all's well that ends well I guess. Your next Liz.

And yes, the MK should be ready any day now. Can't decide whether to have Bill ship it or drive down and pick it up. It's about a 7-hour drive.

Lee is getting "Rosie" back from Harry James. It developed a small crack (not untypical of rosewood) so Harry had him send it back to take care of it. What can I say about the Oahu. Other than it is amazing. Well worth the wait. First thing Bore Oil on the fret board and it made it just pop. Then the yearly Lizard Spit polish. Then install the Baggs M-1 (a pain in the keester in a 3.5" sound hole, swearing like a drunkin' sailor) Now it's time to string it up. Has Kluson tuners with the hole down the center, well 6-2 went just fine. The one string 45 minutes later i am on YouTube looking for a trick to this, well fortunately my favorite luthier had the answer. FINALLY I'm on my way to pure audio ecstasy. Didn't try plugging in yet, just enjoying the acoustical sound too much. I will post photos tomorrow and let you know. Let us know what you decide on the MK you know we want updates. I am so happy for you both. Mike

Hi Liz,I'm going though the getting use to playing something that is very familiar but at the same time sooooo unfamiliar that it's quite strange.The D tuning is something I've never messed with and that is like learning a new language.Then we get into the mechanics of learning where to put my right hand for tone and not digging in so far.I've already decided that strings are next to be changed.I've ordered some New Tones to try and some John Pearse so there where I'm at.I'm sure you've already walked this walk.It's cold here so Pics can't be done right now at least outside so maybe I'll catch a warmer day soon.I talked to Grizz on the phone last night for a while and he was a big help.Another thing that is really odd is the lack of volume which is normal but after playing reso for all the years it takes some getting used to.It is a great instrument it's so light you think its going to float out of the case.So there you have it the after day one report.Thanks for asking. Thanks for the update, Cal. I know just what you mean about how the volume of a reso makes the Weissenborn a big surprise. I find that I have to reset my ears and playing approach and let the sound of the Weiss come to me. It's a more receptive, spacious approach than reso.
(Unless you're Bob Brozman, who whips all his guitars into a frenzy) It's not just another guitar, but an entirely different instrument. When I get into it, I find myself not wanting to leave the deliciousness of the sound.
I bet Grizz had all kinds of pearls. I'll be happy to hear about what strings you like. Bill Hardin told me I could put a .60 on my MK for the low D. I can't wait to try that. I'll start another thread for this, but I got the first pictures of that guitar in progress from Bill. They are posted on my profile page. Happy exploring.

John Pearse 3160's the low D is a .060 They really sound the best to me on the MK. He and Bob told me the same thing. But on another note there are strings and tunings Bob won't tell you about because he is a crazy man like me. What's cool is Bob works with Bill and with John Pearse. Those Wessie strings they sell were from a collaboration with Bob.
