I've only been at this two years... Prior to that I wasn't looking. Actually, I wasn't even familiar with the word. But now that I'm looking, it seems every luthier is building them. Was that the case 10 years ago and I just never noticed? Or has there been a big uptick in Weissenborn interest?

The popularity of the Wessie and Dobro is on the upswing thanks to the likes of JD, David Lindley, Ed Gerhard and many, many others too numerous to mention here. Give a listen to these. Ed has something to say about it and you may find them interesting as well as entertaining. Pay Particular attention to what Ed says at 3:35 in the second one. I knew that was the sound I needed to make. I guess I'm part of the bandwagon then. It's still surprisingly unknown though... at least up here. Every time I pull it out there's quite a few people who've never seen or heard one. I like that, so I hope it never gets too popular. Or I'll have to buy a Chaturangui.

	BlairFraser says: 4/28/2012 6:35:50 PM I've heard of a lot of these. In the 10 months I was saving for my Weiss browsing YouTube for tidbits of weissenborn was a bit if an obsession. What's odd is how many are Australian. You missed Harry Manx though. I saw him play a few months back. Just an absolutely stellar performer. He had a converted Taylor for lap style (and of course the veena). Neither a Weiss, but close enough. Thomas Oliver has some good stuff too. Hopefully he'll make it up here one day.

Another one that plays outstanding Lap Guitar and Reso who i didn't mention because it is really not a Wessie is Mike DeVelta. I just heard from him a few minutes ago. I am desperately trying to learn this youtube.com/watch?v=R2yKBmif-pI I have my Oahu K71 tuned and it has a Baggs M1 Passive PU run through a Baggs Venue DI and i am able to come very close to his sound which is so haunting, i absolutely love it. Another one we mustn't forget if we are talking about lap guitar ks Kelly Joe Phelps. Now that reminds me of another Wesie player i missed and that was Steve Dawson.
