Awfully Quiet Here Lately

From Randy H on 10/26/2016 11:53:13 AM

Been a while since someone wrote anything here lately so I guess I'll break the silence.  Dropped Troy a note asking about if the new lap steel lessons he just brought out would be a good place to start learning dobro/wess in open D, he said it probably would.  I'm just concerned about getting the basic mechanics down.  Or maybe I don't know what I really need, who knows.  Like the karate kid thinking that he's learning a lot of useless shtuff like wax on-wax off?  I know where I want to end up, just don't know how to get there.  Any thoughts are welcome.  Although I'm not ready to purchase an instrument, I've been looking hard at the solid mahogany AW and Big Island Pro models at Anderwoods' website and their site on Facebook had their new lapsteel guitar that looked interesting.  Also looked at Richard Wilson's goods though his were about twice as high, maybe with good reason, again I don't know, still happy to play my POS dobro til I get the money to do something drastic, just thinking out loud.

I thought Troy's lapsteel stuff looked really good. Also you can learn a lot just watching some of the stuff that is out there on Youtube and you can play along with it as you do. Check out David Lindley.

You're not too far from Rob Anderlik - a sit down or two with him if it is possible would teach you a ton of stuff.

Randy, it's like you're reading my mind. I know where I want to be, but am unsure of how to get there. I just figured out I could play along with recordings the other day. Now I realize the scale patterns I'm learning will help me when I do that. I'm beginning to think nothing is a waste as long as I'm playing!

I'm with you there, Liz. Words to live by.
