	Tom_Noe says: 10/9/2012 7:16:55 PM It's a Knutsen with a solid neck joining at the 7th fret. Koa with a spruce top. I have one just like it that I paid under $1500 for in 2006. Price seems to vary all over the place for Knutsens because they don't come up for sale all that often. You can hear how it sounds, but you really want to own to part with 3.2 large.

	jacknj says: 10/10/2012 6:03:41 AM I came across a Knutsen a couple of years ago in NJ at a vintage guitar shop and they were asking $3200 for it. Rareness does translate into $$$. This particular guitar was a full hollow neck with a spruce top and koa sides and back. The nut seemed to be a piece of unknown wood that extended about 1/4" past each side of the neck - very crude. It had diagonal back bracing which corresponded with the diagonal back grain. Apparently common among Knutsens. I'll guess the reason for it was purely economical. It was probably more difficult to find longer pieces for the back, so gluing up multiple pieces at a diagonal orientation allowed for the extra length needed. Tom you may have some insight into this .
	Tom_Noe says: 10/10/2012 8:42:28 AM Knutsen began the diagonal back bracing with his harp guitars in the 1890s and seemed to prefer it over the years, along with his modified fan top bracing. He also seemed to prefer to orient the wood for the backs at an angle, particularly for the harp Hawaiians. I think this was purely aesthetic, and it was also common for him to use a single sheet of wood for the back, as well as cobbling pieces together. You can see examples in my book. Speaking of the price factor, check the Knutsens like the Craigslist model at Intermountain for $4800 and at Gruhn for $6500! And these are not particularly rare models as far as Knutsens go.
	Seabass says: 10/10/2012 11:12:33 AM In my opinion, the prices at Intermountain and Gruhn are usually way too high (at least for the lap steels, don't know about the other guitars). It seems like many other people think the same way as their inventory hardly every changes... :)
