Welcome to Matt, our newest member!

Hi Matt - Welcome to the group.  You're just in time for a sale on Newtone Aloha strings which many of us swear by (see previous post for details).  Please make yourself at home here, and, when you feel comfortable, let us know how you came to the Weissenborn.

Welcome to the group Matt. I hope you enjoy your summer. We are going into hibernation again. HaHa!!

Thanks for the welcome Liz! I am very happy to have found this group, I've already learned so much just from reading through the past years worth of content. I've also discovered some awesome new music and picked up a great album from another group member - (Thanks Dan, your 'The Neighborhood Trio' album has been on high rotation here for the past week or so).

I've wanted to play the Weissenborn ever since I first heard Ben Harper's Welcome to the Cruel World album - which would have been in '98 or thereabouts. It wasn't until 10 years later that I got my hands on a Weissenborn - but unfortunately I had to let go of it shortly afterwards due to financial reasons coupled with the fact I had absolutely no idea how to play and didn't have the patience/time/space to learn.

Yet the desire remained ...

Fast forward to now, I managed to get a used (and mildly abused) Sachar Amos Weissenborn a few days ago, have downloaded some Lessons from Troy and have been practicing every chance I get!

Thanks for the welcome jimbob, I will definitely enjoy summer if it ever arrives. It was so cold in Australia today that many have been dealing with floods, snow and gale force winds.

Sachar Amos is a builder I hadn't heard of. His guitars look to be beautifully crafted. I did exactly the same thing when I got my first Weissenborn, a GoldTone SM!

I hope you are safe from the wild weather down under. Here in California, we are slipping into Fall, a mild season.

Hi Matt and welcome to the group. I'm interested in what lessons you got from Troy as I am wanting to do some of his lessons too. The lap steel series have caught my eye and I'm going to learn on a very cheap squareneck dobro til I save the money for a nice instrument, been looking at Anderwood solid body models. Again, welcome!

Thanks Liz, I am keeping safe from the wild weather, I've been happily stuck inside practicing! Sachar does build beautiful guitars, the one that I have is Tasmanian Blackwood and sounds absolutely divine.

Thanks for the welcome Randy. I bought Troy's Lap Steel Basics as a starting point and have found them to be very good so far (I'm part way through Vol #1 Part B). I can even play some things that almost sound like music!

They really are great lessons to begin with - he covers technique and all the really basic stuff which is exactly what I needed. Check out the samples in this thread resohangout.com/topic/29939

Hi Matt:

Welcome to the group! Don't be a stranger!

I won't be a stranger Rob, no doubt about that! I've got a feeling you'll all be sick of me before too long!
