Lindley is my Weissenborn inspiration and I've seen him at least a half dozen times. So far I've bought a cheap Chinese lap slide, and a weissenborn, and, (I'm a woodworker with a decent shop) I built a lovely 6 string, mahogany lap steel. My Chinese weiss cost me about $500 and I regret not buying something better. Live and learn I guess, but at least I am getting the Weissenborn experience I wanted. I intend to upgrade - maybe a Lazy River, or Celtic Cross. I am also new to tunings and have confined myself, so far, to D tuning. I have one of Bob Brozmans CD's and one from Kelly Joe Phelps that have got me started. I wish there was more out there on D and low G tunings and weiss. technique, but I'm picking up what I can.

Should probably do a blog post about my hand exercise routine, much of which depends on the thick rubber bands that come on bunches of broccoli. There are several of us here who came to steel guitar because of a Left-hand injury, so you're in good company. Other sources for open D tunes are RobAnderlik.com (our own RobA) and Troy Brenningmeyer, who put out some good lessons in D before moving on lap steel and C6 tuning.
