Hi,
    I was asked to introduce myself to the group so I thought I'd write a few things about my self. I live in Essex (England) I'm the wrong side of 40 and I've been playing guitar on and off for about ten years. When I say on and off I mean exactly that. I tried to learn conventional regular tuned acoustic guitar and quite frankly struggled. I was frustrated and something wasn't clicking. Well after a 5 year lay off of not playing at all I stumbled upon cigar box guitars and more to the point "slide guitar in open tunings". Well it was a revelation it was as if I'd found something that I could finally express myself with. Slide guitar to me mimics the human voice better than any other instrument I know. I found myself free from the constrains of playing "recognisable songs and tunes" which everyone always seems to end up judging you by. Playing delta blues in open d was liberating and I fell in love with Ry Cooder's soundtrack work especially Paris Texas and crossroads. Next I decided to take a dive into the world of resonator guitars and brought myself a brass bodied 6 string resonator. My old guitar skills seemed to give me a good footing and soon I was passably playing some of MR Cooder's best know instrumentals. I was enjoying this immensely but one day on YouTube I watched a video of Ed Gerhard playing this wonderful instrument called the weissenborn. It sounded like nothing else on earth I'd heard before, it called to me. Playing on my lap with a slide bar seemed such a natural thing to do and the fact it was played in open tunings was the icing on the cake. Everything clicked this time when I first started playing one. I've only been play 3 months and I'm going from strength to strength. I posted a few videos to my YouTube channel (tattoogeezer13) of me playing my CBG and a few of me playing my Reso and weissenborn, as I said I've only been play a little while but I'm very happy with my improvements. I love Ed Gerhard, Knut Hem, Sam Simon, John Wilde, Thomas Oliver to name a few. I hope joining this group will enrich my knowledge of the weissenborn and help me develop playing. beamer boy - Thanks for that introduction! I can relate to all of it and I think there are many here that feel similarly. Love your Paris Texas video. You capture that big-vista, on-the-road feeling very well. It's a sound the Weiss seems made for. I envy your facility with effects too: I'm a bit of a chicken when it comes to that. Is that what you're doing. It sounds fantastic. I'll give it a try - as soon as I find the pick up I misplaced. I should never straighten up.
