Please see the "Style 1 Weissenborn on eBay with Serial #" earlier entry below. We've already been discussing this "jewel".. :-)

Okay, but only if it comes with a bar, extra strings, the stand, carpet, hardwood floor, furniture and fireplace pictured with it. Oh, and picks. Gotta throw in some picks.

I'm willing to sell my mid 1920s style 1 for $14,999...

That brings up a good question: What's the most amount of money anyone has seen that's actually been spent for a genuine vintage Weissenborn. I can't recall seeing anything over $5K...

I know of a style 2/3 Kona in a local music shop. They're asking $3850, cracks and all. I told them they were crazy, they said make an offer, so I guess they want to move it. It's been there for years, few people really know what it is.

Andy - around $20,000 for one pristine Style 4. There was also once a pair of Style 4s with consecutive serial numbers - but I never asked what the owner paid. FWIW - I have seen and sold various random serial numbered instruments, it is a cool feature but not a defining one. Execution, era, condition and reputation of the seller are critical.

Randy Wood had a Style 1 hanging up his shop for around $2000. It was a real beater with cracks, dings, and heavily checked finish. Tuners were not original. Knowing Randy's prices, it could be a $15,000 guitar if he made it like new again. His hand built instruments start at around twice that.

Isn't it odd that three giants in the luthier world live here in Savannah, Wood, Bennedetto, and Gretsch?
