It's got a Stadler mark in it too. Tom can tell us what that means. Except for that scratch on the back, this looks like a nice one. Thanks for the heads-up on it.

Henry Stadlmaier was a large east coast music merchandiser and we often see his burned-in brand in Weissenborn instruments. Weissenborn Co. Ltd. began making ukuleles for Stadlmaier in early 1924 under Stadlmaier's own Maui label. April 1924 ads in the Music Trade Review show not only the Maui ukes, but Weissenborn Hawaiian and Spanish guitars as well. The official exclusive Stadlmaier east coast distributorship contract ran from August 1, 1924, to August 1, 1927. This guitar appears to be in pretty good condition. That white scratch can be made to disappear using an old furniture repair trick of rubbing a walnut meat over the scratch.

And I meant chunter4 in my earlier comment. Tom, I never heard of the walnut meat trick. I want to try it. I use boiled linseed oil to remove cut marks on stone and glass (I make mosaics). Assume that would also work on wood. On the other hand, you can't snack on the leftovers.

The price is lin line with others in similar condition. My only concern is the repaired back crack. It is quite visible in that one photo and runs full length down the treble side. He says its an old repair and is stable, but I would want to get a closer look at it. A good repair is done from the inside and cleats used to keep things stable, but I have seen sloppy repairs where white glue is forced into the crack from the outside. I hope this isn't one of those.

The seller relisted this guitar. It was offered with a starting price of $1,999 about 2 weeks ago but nobody would buy it. So, you could have had it cheaper as it is now....

It has been interesting to look at the all of the closed Weissenborn auctions on ebay. It seems like they are not selling at the prices that are being asked. I only saw one that even had bids on it and it seemed to have been in very pristine condition. Currently there are 3-4 Original Weissenborns listed, with the majority being over the $4k mark. At that price, it would seem to me one should consider the Rayco that is listed currently or the Bear Creek that just recently closed.
