Hi everyone and thanks, Liz, for the friendly welcoming words!

I live in Basel, Switzerland, am 30 years young and have been a guitarist for more than 15 years now, trying out different styles on electric and acoustic guitars.

Slide guitar has been on my radar for a while now, but I never seriously gave it a try. I recently moved to town and got to jam with Samuel, a great dobro player and that finally got me. Next thing I did was buying an extension nut and a tonebar and what I got was basically a new instrument and a captivating new musical adventure.

Samuel had this hunch that I might want to try out a Weissenborn and after watching a couple of YouTube videos I decided that this was my new thing. On Weissenborn forums I read about the Hermann guitars from Italy and I decided to ask Ermanno to build one for me. So I'm currently exchanging e-mails with him (a very friendly and savvy guy) and it seems that this summer I'll have a nice hand-made custom Weissenborn with Italian spruce top and rosewood corpus in my hand :-)

I thought I'd hook up with you guys as early as possible and am looking forward to talking to you.

If you post photos of the build to your home page and let us know, we'll follow along ooing and ahhing as your guitar is built. Thanks for letting us in on your new musical adventure. The way the Weissenborn keeps captivating people is remarkable. There is someone else waiting for me to add them to the group as I type this, and we are the largest sub-group on the Resohangout by a wide margin. Talk about an adventure!

I'll try to record some clips as soon as I'll feel at home on the instrument. I hope he'll start soon and I can follow the build. As soon as I get pictures I'll post them here. Ermanno usually has a waiting list of three months, so we'll have to wait a little for the final result. On the other hand, since Italy is not too far away from here, I think end of May will be a perfect time for a weekend trip to meet the builder, pick up the guitar and visit nearby Venice, so several pleasures will be combined ;-) Take care, anthronaut

The videos with the summertime mountainseide makes my yearning for spring even greater, it's still well below zero now and it's been like that far too long. In fact, I've seen the Matterhorn for the first time in my life this winter, when I went to take the infamous Glacier Express train ride (great trip!). I was actually a little disappointed that you could see the famous Matterhorn right from the train station in Zermatt, I always thought it was a little bit more off the beaten track - But well still a majestic scenery. I'm looking forward to the hiking season.
x says: 3/2/2013 12:49:45 PM Welcome to the group. Hope you can post some pictures and sound clips of your new instrument when it arrives. I have some good friends who live directly south of you (on the map, anyway) in the Lauterbrunnen valley, and visit them as often as I can (in the summertime- don't think I could handle any other time of year!). Long music making sessions are always a part of our visits- I have rarely played for a more engaged and appreciative audience, especially after a lifetime of playing for jaded Los Angelenos. And one always meets interesting people on the trails. Greutzi!
