Gold Tone Style 4

From Dobro66S on 5/17/2013 4:38:21 AM

Just pulled the trigger on one of these ! IvanR over at Resonation gave it a good test drive and recommended it. Check my Gold Tone Weissenborn post there.

This Instrument fell into my Budget,I know all about other Independent Builders so please no comments on that Subject.I will review this guitar the best I can in the coming week to hopefully help anyone else who is looking at buying,, but a bit unsure. Michael

Cool - I haven't had a chance to try one. A ringing endorsement from Ivan is about as good as it gets.

Awesome.

Did you get the all Koa version?

Can't wait to hear your review and maybe a sound clip of it. At its price range it should be a strong contender in the mid-level price range. I looked at them when I was buying my first one and came very close to buying one, so I am keen to hear your opinion. Hopefully it can help put this import vs local conversation to bed for a while.

good luck!

Hello Michael,
Congratulations on your new Goldtone style 4 in Koa. I have had the Goldtone SM and am so happy with it. Construction and the meticulous workmanship is apparent and the tone is everything I could desire. I must thank once again our member here "jmb3450" for his nice playing and postings. These had a big influence on my decision to go for the Goldtone SM with the Fishman pickup. I hope you will be as happy and satisfied as I have been Michael.
Congratulations once again.
Regards
Jim

PS: I re-read my posting and it seemed to convey a past tense. This is not what I had intended. I still have my Goldtone.

This is a reply from the Resonation forum from aturco as stated... Yes I have a new style 4. I also have and original 40's all koa wiessenborn..and I can honestly say except for the 40 having a little more warmth and sustain, probably due to age and many years of playing. They sound and play almost identical. In fact the response on the new style 4 is a little quicker. I am sure over time with lots of playing it will only keep sounding better. It is a new instrument so it is not even close to opening up yet. But just in the few short months I have had it, it is already getting better. Very impressed with it.

And this one from Ivanr...I don't have one but played a Gold Tone Style 4 in a music shop and really liked it - it had all the good tone of instruments that cost 2 or 3 times as much.

and...Yeah, this isn't like a Gold Tone Beard, which, while great instruments for the price, aren't in the same league as a Beard made by Paul and the gang. Gold Tone's higher end Weissies are killer instruments. I'll probably wind up getting one myself...

Thanks for the reply,s guys I,ll keep you posted as soon as I get my hands on it!!
Will have pics and report to follow. In the meantime I,m thinking of a pickup for it,maybe some suggestions from you all. Anything But a Mag! I really want the acoustic sound to come thru,,, so one of the undersadle Mics ? Such as The LRbaggs Lyric???
