String spacing pole pieces

From Karl Rabe on 6/10/2013 8:45:20 AM

Hello everybody, here comes the another pickup-thread!

I still have this GoldTone WSM. I got it from Goldtone equipped with a Dean Merkley Trilogy pickup. The pole pieces of that pu fit exactly the string spacing of a Dreadnaught guitar, but they are way too narrow for this WSM. I seems to be really difficult if not impossible to catch all strings to get an even loudness. I had to turn some completely in, others way out. The biggest problem is as so often the first string.

Now I have two questions:

Is the string spacing (about) the same with all modern Weissenborns?

Are there any soundhole-PUs with a wider spacing of the pole pieces which you would recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Broadly speaking, both the Sunrise and the Seymour Duncan mag-mic both seem to suit the string spacing on the vast majority of weissenborns and repro's. I too have a Goldtone SM, and the Duncan fits it.

Another vote for the Baggs M1. Works well in my Bear Creek Weissemborn. The only Weissenborn I'm aware of with wider-than-usual string spacing is the Superior Hawaiian at about 70mm wide.

Thanks for your replies! Maybe I'll try the Baggs and see whether it suits my guitar better.
