This particular song is supposed to have a rhythmic drone on the upper string. I noticed pretty quickly that the metal finger pick on the drone string really detracted with the metallic quack. My first thought was that it was because I had too much Mic, so I turned it off and just went with all Mag, but it still was really bad.

So I am guessing it is related to technique and/or how I am wearing them. I have shaped so they are hitting flat on the strings, but other than that not sure. I have seen some members on here get some beautiful tone with the metal finger picks to the point there are not even noticeable to the listener.

Any ideas?

	Aron says: 6/29/2013 7:56:23 AM I don't use finger picks on my Weissy for just this reason but I did have more luck with celluloid finger picks. But for me metal finger picks don't bring out the earthy woody tones I like in a Weissy they're far more suited for what they were designed for ie dobros. Nice tune though even with the quacking :-)

However, I have really started to enjoy the tone and volume that comes from playing with them on heavier gauge strings. 	Liz Williams says: 6/29/2013 9:36:37 AM I like the tune! Each version has something to offer. Just last night I was pondering this question. Sometimes I get the quack, sometimes I don't. I've tried Propik fingertone picks, and they help a lot. Some players swear by them, but I couldn't figure out how to shape them to avoid a scraping sound, so I put them aside. Now I'm going frame-by-frame on the instructional videos I have,especially Cindy Cashdollar and Ivan Rosenberg, who's tone I especially love. The quack seems to happen when I go too deep between the strings, much like I used to when I played classical guitar. I'm beginning to think it's not just a matter of adding picks. My next step is to videotape my right hand and compare it to the instructional videos. That should be humbling.
