Hi Dutch - Thanks for asking. I'd say my preferences have clarified: Turns out I'm not a koa guitar person! Bill Hardin and I had many conversations about this over the year I've had that Bear Creek MK+. He helped me understand that my ear wants to hear more bass-treble separation rather than the koa midrange-focused sound. That's my stumbling explanation. Bill would be able to say it better. Blackwood and koa have a similar sound profile.
On a whim, I bought a Pogreba mahogany/rosewood Weissenborn, and it's the sound I've been wanting. So I'm pretty much starting over, but with a better idea of the sound I want. Which means new adventures await!
My next move is freeing up cash for a Beard MA6 dobro, which means my Beard R will probably go on the block at some point. I've even started letting myself dream about a German silver National tricone, but that's way in the future.

Yes, I've heard sound samples of the MA6 and it is very different than the R. Have you played one?
It's a shame that I have an MK being built myself or I'd take that one off your hands 8-)... It's beautiful. I'm sure you will find a good home for it. The price is right considering the upgrades.
Have you thought about a NRP Hollowneck tri-cone?

I have thought about an NRP hollowneck tricone. I just can't find one to play. Have you been able to play one? I'd love to compare a hollowneck to a german silver tricone, both new and vintage.
I've never played an MA6 either. It's madness buying guitars sight-unseen! I'm hoping I'll get the chance to try one.

No, I have not played a NRP hollowneck tri-cone. Just a few sound clips. Sounds great for blues stuff.
I agree,so hard to take the plunge on speculation but sometimes that is the only way. Good luck on your next adventure.

Aw, Rick, how was I to know? Well, I did know about the baritone. Can't you get a marital exception?
I called Pogreba about his meteorite slides I bought one of those (interesting sounding things). We had a great conversation, but he didn't have any Weissenborns up for grabs. A few weeks later, I called again and same story. On the third call, he said he had a guitar he'd forgotten to mention as it was at the music store in Bozeman. If I wanted, he'd send it to me.
AMCCJ7 - What? The 1930 tricone didn't send you? I'm probably going to regret not buying the 1929 Chrysanthemum I played at Gryphon Stringed Instruments a couple years ago. I've never heard a sound like that.
