Because I haven't had much experience with them, I didn't spend a lot on it. It is a solid mahogany top with ply back made by Twisted Wood guitars. twistedwoodguitars.com/Twisted...Page.html They look very similar to the Anderwood guitars. i'm guessing that they could be made in the same place. I actually decided to get one because I was looking for something to practice on that didn't annoy my wife so much! : ) She finds the reso a little harsh and loud and I tend to dig in. It's her own fault. She bought me my first resonator. ; ) I am hoping to try some Newtone Aloha strings with a standard G tuning but I recognize that this isn't really where the weissie shines. Has anyone here tried them? I have to admit that exploring a bunch of different tunings will be fun but I have a hard enough time finding my way around a dobro neck. One of the biggest challenges I have found playing a lap style guitar is dealing with the tuning. I am a string bass player firstly so a symmetrical tuning between strings comes much easier to me. As a school music teacher, it would also be nice to be able to use the Weissenborn as an accompanying instrument in the classroom. There's my intro!

I use Newtone Alohas on my Oahu acoustic tuned in open D (high to low DAF#DAD. I find it a wonderful tuning for accompanying singing because of that low D. My other Oahu acoustic is in high G (DBGDBG) and has a very light set of D'Addarios I put together from single strings using Andy Volk's book, Slide Rules. I know Newtone claims the Alohas can go up to high G without damage, but I've always been afraid to try it. In your shoes, I'd ask the folks at Twisted Wood about this before I put that much tension on the guitar. Low G tuning might be just the thing: It's got that authoritative low D for accompanying, the Aloha set is a good fit for it, and it's most like dobro high G: (DBGDGD). Let us know how it goes. We especially like pictures and audio (hint, hint). :-)

	Liz Williams says: 8/12/2013 12:48:47 PM Maybe you'll be the first. All that matters is that it works for what you're playing and doesn't munch your guitar. I might miss the low tonic (G). According to Volk in Slide Rules, David Lindley uses DBGDGG. The 6th string G is an octave lower than the 5th string. If you want to stick with high G, and your builder nixes tuning up the Alohas, just replace the 5th string with a 35-38 gauge and the 6th string with a 45-48 gauge. Strings 1-4 should be fine. Maybe someone else will chime in and tell us the Alohas are fine for high G. I've been too afraid try it.
