weird question for gigging Weissenborn players

Now that the PU is installed I've been taking my old Style 1 Weissenborn to a few open stages and while I've been very pleased with the sound I'm getting I'm wondering about stage lights. Every time I go up to play my little tunes I end up playing rather poorly because I can't see the fret markers on my guitar.

I can't see them AT ALL. Now if you're an accomplished player maybe you can manage but for me at this stage it's a big obstacle.

How do you deal with lighting issues when using a Weissenborn. Do you use aids such a additional lights or "glow in the dark" fret markers? I've been gigging as a regular guitar player for 3 decades but this is a new experience and a frustrating one. Any help is appreciated.

	Bob Blair says: 9/20/2013 2:14:07 PM I've not had that particular problem over the years - until recently most of my gigging has been on pedal steel. Maybe the fret markers on your style one are a little less prominent than on my newer instruments, but you sure as heck don't want to mess with them. Lots of fumbling around in the dark getting set up and dialled in, but not while playing. I try to remember to have a flashlight with my gear, but that is no help when you are playing. I would drag some kind of lamp on a floor stand along with me (looks better than a flashlight on a headband!). I suspect you could find some kind of clip-on light that you could clip on the headstock, maybe even one with a battery, but that detracts from the look of the instrument.

x says: 9/22/2013 12:08:02 AM I've had similar issues. I tried clip on book lights, and music stand lights. Neither one helped out much. From now on, I'm just going to budget a big tip for the guy who runs the lights...
RickW says: 10/4/2013 6:16:49 AM Believe it or not, several companies make glow in the dark adhesive tape. Try tapeBrothers.com. One caveat, though: you would want to make sure that the adhesive did not harm your guitar. Regular duct tape, for example, is really gooey. A possible answer would be to firs lay down a narrow strip of painter's tape or masking tape, then put the luminescent tape atop that. I'd also suggest trying this out first on a less fragile, less valuable instrument.
