Andrea House - "This Christmas Day"

From Bob Blair on 12/21/2013 9:40:47 AM

I had the great pleasure of working on this project - a seasonal  EP by one of Western Canada's most gifted artists, and as fine a person as I have ever encountered. The project came together very quickly last month, and among other things showcases Andrea's new song "This Christmas Day".   I wish I could tell you I played weissenborn on it, but in fact I played pedal steel.  The tunes are downloadable from CD Baby at the following link:

All the best to everyone for the holidays, and I hope to be sneaking some weiss into some of Andrea's shows someday soon.

I just previewed this EP, and it's just gorgeous. Andrea has the voice of an angel, and the arrangements complement her voice perfectly. What a treat. There isn't any PSG in the samples, but man, oh man - what sound. Thanks for posting this Bob.

All of the ambient sustain and sustaining kinds of lines on the first two samples was psg - some and probably even most of what I was doing did not have any conventional psg licks. For example, the horn-like stuff in the "First Noel" sample was all pedal steel. There was no violin and no horns so all of the sustaining was my job. The mandolin work by Marc Ladouceur is stunning I think - it is no secret that Marc (who is a very prominent guitar and mandolin player up here) has been facing very tough health issues, and it is really special to be working with him again.

That's some really nice work Bob! Congratulations!

Thanks Rob. I feel really lucky to be associated with Andrea's projects. The music being season-appropriate I was listening to this myself this morning while making coffee, and reflecting on my good fortune. Best wishes for the holidays and new year.
